In The Lonely Hour - Sam Smith (Album Concept)

(School Project) This started as one of my projects from my Photoshop class. I saw it's potential so I continued working on it. In an interview with DigitalSpy, Sam Smith (the artist seen in the album cover) said, "My debut album is just a diary from a lonely 21-year-old. It was my way of talking about the only real issue in my life... I fell in love with someone who didn't love me back." It's about unrequited love and defining what love is to him. In the album art cover, the artist, Sam Smith, looks down as he tend to his internal emotions. The background suggests doubt as the moon on the horizon sits on top of a vast meadow, only showing a silhouette of a tree. All these elements indicate that he's "In The Lonely Hour." You might be asking yourself, "Why does the background look like it was scratched or peeled off?" Sam Smith wants to share his thoughts and feelings towards his audience. He wants us to catch a glimpse of what he went through and what he felt at that moment in his life. With that in mind, I made an artistic choice to only show parts of the meadow and moon. Lastly, the size of the moon expresses his sadness.
